LS140 Skid Loader N843 Engine Problems

    Hello,

I am having problems with a fairly high hour  (4800hrs) LS140 skid loader w/ N843 engine.  Engine start and runs, not much smoke of any kind but LOUD knocking noise.  Hard to tell if it's top or bottom end of motor.  Compression testing on 1 to 3 cylinders was 475, 250 and 325 - so 2 and 3 are low to spec.  My next steps:

    1) Confirm valve setup / clearance

    2) Check timing

    3) Pull head - should I do something else prior to this?

I have the complete shop manual - if I am going down a path of a complete rebuild, any other advice?

Anything else that I should be concerned about with this loader and given it's hours?  Hydro seems OK but I very reluctant to run it much.  I will replace all filters / fluids / lube prior to use.

    Thanks,
    Fred

     Fred,

I know we talked on the phone, but how are you coming along with your repair ?

    Thanks, Les.
